Architect / Urban Designer (3-5 yrs)

We are seeking an Architect / Urban Designer (with experience in architecture) to join our interdisciplinary design practice. This role operates at the intersection of architecture and urban design, contributing to projects that range from building-scale design to district-wide master planning. The ideal candidate is a design thinker and problem solver who can translate complex urban, regulatory, and economic constraints into compelling and buildable design solutions.

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role. The candidate will have 3+ years of experience and will collaborate on projects that intersect architecture, urbanism, and landscape design. Responsibilities include developing architectural design, urban master plans, preparing technical drawings from schematic to construction, conducting site analysis, and engaging with community stakeholders. The candidate will also co-create design presentations, manage project workflows, and contribute to design solutions that align with UltraBarrio’s mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop design concepts across multiple scales—from individual buildings to district plans
  • Contribute to the design of buildings, urban districts, and public realm projects
  • Produce site plans, massing studies, and conceptual design proposals
  • Work closely with architects, planners, developers, economists, policymakers, and city agencies
  • Participate in client meetings and stakeholder engagement
  • Contribute to public presentations and community outreach efforts
  • Clearly communicate design ideas through drawings, narratives, and models
  • Support project delivery from concept through documentation, including preparing drawing sets from concept design to construction documents
  • Ability to perform site analysis, research cultural and spatial contexts, and translate findings into actionable designs

Qualifications

  • 5-year Bachelor’s in Architecture, or Master’s in Architecture / Urban Design
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in multiple phases of design from concept to construction documents
  • Strong design portfolio demonstrating work across scales
  • Strong desire to work towards professional licensure
  • Applicants must be legally permitted to work in the U.S

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Rhino, Revit, SketchUp, AutoCAD
  • Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop)
  • Familiarity with GIS and spatial analysis tools
  • Strong model building and 3D Printing preferred.
