Agency in Action – Designing and Delivering a Future Worth Building

The challenges facing the Gulf Coast demand both ambitious thinking and meaningful action. Climate change, ecological degradation, inequity, and growing uncertainty are reshaping the places we design and the responsibilities of those who shape them. Gulf Coast Green 2027 will explore how the design and construction professions can move beyond awareness toward agency, using their collective knowledge, creativity, and influence to create healthier, more resilient, and more hopeful futures. 

Agency in Action brings together two interconnected dimensions of sustainable practice: designing the larger ideas, systems, and strategies that guide change, and delivering the technical solutions, partnerships, and built work that make those ideas real. Conference sessions will move between broad conversations about resilience, restoration, climate justice, community, policy, and emerging practice, and detailed discussions of constructability, materials, procurement, performance, value engineering, operations, and lessons learned in the field. 

Meaningful environmental outcomes do not come from one profession working alone. They depend on architects, landscape architects, engineers, contractors, owners, fabricators, operators, policymakers, ecologists, and communities collaborating throughout the life of a project. By connecting systems-level thinking with practical implementation, Gulf Coast Green 2027 asks how we can work across disciplines and scales to turn sustainable ambition into lasting impact. 

Together, we will examine not only the future worth building, but the decisions, relationships, and actions required to design and deliver it.
