Proceeds from the Gala benefit the programs of the Architecture Center Houston (ArCH). ABOUT ArCH: ArCH: Architecture Center Houston is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that cultivates public appreciation for architecture and its effect on the human experience through design-focused programming. ArCH offers architectural tours, K-12 educational programs, community events, lectures, and exhibitions. The programs address a wide range of audiences and celebrate Houston’s rich architectural and cultural heritage. Each year, ArCH programs benefit over 4,500 individuals and continue to grow in size, diversity and reach. Over the years, the Architecture Center Houston Foundation has given over $400,000 for community assistance, publications, educational projects, exhibitions, and public service. Grantees have included: Blueprint Houston, Buffalo Bayou Partnership, Central Houston, Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, Greater Houston Preservation Alliance, Houston Arts Alliance, Houston Public Library, Michael G. Meyers High School Design Competition, Project Row Houses, Rice University School of Architecture, Stella Link Redevelopment Association, and UH Gerald D Hines College of Architecture. Expected Outreach: 800-1000 attendees. The event is publicized widely across the architecture, construction, and engineering community. Place your bid in the 2024 Houston Design Gala Silent Auction!
HANDBID INSTRUCTIONS
The 2024 Houston Design Gala Silent Auction will be using HANDBID, a mobile silent auction platform that allows you to bid from your smartphone or desktop computer. Instructions for downloading and using the app are listed below.
STEP 1: DOWNLOAD THE HANDBID APP
If you have an iPhone or Android, you can download the Handbid app from the Apple iTunes App Store or the Google Play Store. Please note we strongly recommend you “accept notifications from this app” when you open it. This will allow you to get push notifications for “Outbid” messages during the auction.
STEP 2: REGISTER
Next, you can create an account. From the Handbid App home screen, tap on the “GET STARTED” button and follow the prompts to get set up for bidding. You will be prompted to add your payment information to your profile in advance of bidding. A credit card will be required in order for you to place a bid.
STEP 3: SEARCH FOR THE EVENT
Under “ALL EVENTS”, search for “HOUSTON DESIGN GALA.”

STEP 4: START BIDDING
- Whether you are bidding online or in the Handbid App, here are some easy tips to help:
- MAX BID: This is the max you are willing to spend for an item and Handbid system will automatically bid for you until you reach your max. Set a max bid and enjoy your evening!
- NOTIFICATIONS: If you have downloaded the Handbid App and accepted push notifications, you will be notified when you are outbid on an item. If you don’t have the app you will receive text messages from Handbid.
- DASHBOARD: Monitor what you are currently winning and losing on the Dashboard screen in your app or online.
STEP 5: PAY FOR YOUR WINNING ITEM!
If you are a winning bidder at auction close, Handbid makes it easy to pay for your item(s) directly in the app, with a click of a button. If you prefer, an AIA staff member can process your payment at the checkout table. Please pay for your item(s) before leaving the event.
