This tour will highlight the final piece of the Zoo’s centennial master plan – the transformation of the front of the Houston Zoo through the recently opened Jack’s Café and Reflections event center and restoration of the Zoo’s historic reflection pool and colonnade.  Learn about the sustainable design and operations features of Jack’s Café and Reflections event center, including a low-carbon mass timber structure, 18,000-gallon rainwater harvesting system, composting of food waste, and bird-friendly glass.  Hear about the design and construction challenges of restoring the Zoo’s iconic reflection pool and colonnade to its original midcentury aesthetic while improving utility infrastructure.
