On Exhibit
HOU x EDU
Architecture Center Houston is proud to announce its upcoming exhibition, HOUxEDU: Design for Learning, opening Thursday, February 23, 6-8pm, and on view through Friday, May 5. Curated by architect Jody Sergi, AIA, HOUxEDU will showcase the work of seven prominent K-12 architecture firms and their innovative and dynamic approach to changing the educational landscape of Houston. It will highlight some of the best new school designs and explore the ways in which design may enhance learning experience and improve learning outcomes.
Schools are inevitably buildings that we interact with daily and cornerstones of our communities. They are continually evolving into flexible spaces for both learning and engagement. They can be used for shelter, as community centers, or even for exercise and entertainment. Most importantly, schools provide space for students to learn, grow, develop their skills, and get inspired. To students from underserved communities, school is often more than just a classroom, and a well-designed school can provide an environment that is healthier, safer, and allows them to thrive.
The exhibition will touch on themes including sustainability, safety and security, renovation, outdoor learning, collaborative environments, STEAM, Career Technology Education and inclusive design.
