THE 16th ANNUAL GINGERBREAD BUILD-OFF

Architecture Center Houston will host the 15th Annual Gingerbread Build-Off at Levy Park on Saturday, December 13, 2025. Competing teams will create 100% edible, architectural masterpieces using gingerbread, candy, and all sorts of other sweet treats (of which leftovers will be composted)! More than 4,000 spectators are expected to attend and cheer on the teams, play in the kids’ construction zone, and lawn games! All of that entertainment is free and open to the public!
Who can participate?
Team registration is open to local architects, designers, engineers, high school and college students, and holiday enthusiasts of all kinds, seeking fame and fortune with their sugary structures.
2025 Competition Category
Bring your favorite movie moments to life—one gumdrop at a time! This category celebrates iconic films reaching milestone anniversaries in 2025, transformed into edible cinematic masterpieces. Send a gingerbread DeLorean racing Back to the Future, stack candy boulders in the Goonies’ treasure caves, or fill Andy’s room from Toy Story with marzipan toys and frosted building blocks. Think big, build bold, and let your favorite flick inspire the sweetest creation yet. Lights, camera… confection!
Teams may compete in one of the other categories: Architectural Icons, Tallest Standing Structure, Best Holiday Themed, Best Non-Holiday Themed, and Best Houston-centric.

Team registration is open!
Register your team for the 16th Annual Gingerbread Build-Off at Levy Park on Saturday, December 13, 2025 Competition is 9am-2pm with awards at 3:30pm. This event is hosted by Architecture Center Houston.
Please read the competition rules below prior to registering.
Registration includes:
- Aprons for 5 team members (student teams will receive 10 aprons)
- 48″ round presentation/work table
- 8′ x 30″ work table
- 2 chairs
- A regulation foil covered base (approx. 24″ x 24″) – OPTIONAL
Basic gingerbread structural materials including:
- Two 23″ x 17″ gingerbread sheets provided by Three Brothers Bakery
- Approx. 2lbs of frosting in piping bags.
- Mix Bag of Candy: Peppermint candies and canes, Gumdrops, Gummy Bears, M&Ms – OPTIONAL
You can use the Additional Materials Form to order a pop-up tent, and additional aprons, gingerbread and frosting anytime up to November 21 at 5pm.

Rules & Regulations
Registration
Registration is open to local architecture firms, design professionals, students, and enthusiasts.
- Team registration and orders for additional materials closes Friday, November 21.
Materials and Tools
- Teams will be provided one 48” round presentation/ work table, one 8’ x 30” work table, plastic covers, two chairs, and a 10’ x 10’ work area.
- Each team will have the option of requesting a free 24”x 24” foil wrapped base.
- Teams may bring their own base but it may not exceed 24” x 36” in size. The base may not be pre-decorated or prepped in any fashion other than wrapped in foil.
- Each team will be provided two 23″ x 17″ gingerbread sheets provided by Three Brothers Bakery, approx. 2lbs of plain structural icing, peppermint sticks, red and green M&Ms, jellybeans and gumdrops.
- Teams may bring their own materials including gingerbread. Gingerbread may not be precut into shapes prior to the competition. It must be in rectangular sheets.
- All construction materials remaining in, a part of, or attached to the final structure and base for presentation must be edible.
- Materials may not be preassembled. All construction must take place on competition day during the official competition time.
- Competitors are encouraged to bring any tools and kitchen utensils they wish to use. Any construction tools deemed dangerous or disruptive to the general competition by event officials will not be permitted.
- Electricity will be available on site at community stations (read: not at team work tables), but not guaranteed and must be shared by competitors. Teams cannot use generators.
- Non-edible lighting may be placed inside gingerbread structures for judging and exhibition display. Please remove these items at the end of the competition.
Competition
- If you have children on your team (12 years old or younger), there must be a ratio of one legal adult (18 or older) to every two children on your team.
- Each team will receive 5 competition aprons. High School teams will receive 10 aprons. All competing team members must wear a competition apron. Additional aprons may be ordered for $15 each.
- Team check-in begins at 8:00am on December 13th.
- Teams will receive their gingerbread, base, materials, and table assignment at check-in.
- Competition starts at 9:00am and ends at 2:00pm. Judging will take place at 2:00pm with awards at 3:30pm
- Each team may present one printed 8.5” x 11” page of information to the judges about their concept. The judges are not required to review or consider this information. Teams are not required to present this information.
- Environment and presentation of structures may be considered by judges.

- Sponsor tables may not be moved without an event official’s approval.
- Sponsors with teams will be provided a team site for competition.

The Park
- No outside alcoholic beverages or smoking by City Ordiance.
- No glass containers
- Street parking available adjacent to the park area. Additional public parking (parking rates applies) is available in the Kirby Grove parking garage located on the corner of Richmond and Wakeforest.
- All trash must be placed in the bins provided. No trash or recycling should be left at your site at the end of the day. Volunteers will assist your team with disposal.
