A conversation with managing principals of large sized firms
Tuesday, November 14, 6:30pm
Page, 1100 Louisiana St, 77002
Register Here
Of the over 116,000 registered architects in the United States only 5.4 percent identify as Latino or Hispanic according to NCARB. Latinos represent 18.9 percent of the total U.S. population, the nation’s second largest ethnic group. And in Houston, Latinos represent 44.5 percent of the population.
Join the Latinos in Architecture (LiA) Committee for the third in a series of intimate conversations engaging leadership from firms of different sizes on their efforts to increase that percentage, empower their Latino employees, develop and support a pipeline of future Latino architects from high schools and colleges, and giving a voice to Latinos.
This conversation will focus on managing principals of large sized firms Art Chavez, AIA (Page), Diana Davis, AIA (Perkins&Will) and Benito Guerrier, AIA (Kirksey Architecture). These leaders will discuss managing a large-size firm, their values on hiring practices and how they maintain a culturally diverse firm and staff.
Happy Hour sponsored by Page.
Applying for 1.5 LUs.
About the panel:
Arturo Chavéz, AIA
Senior Principal, Page
A native Houstonian, Art is an alumnus of the University of Houston Gerald Hines College of Architecture and Design and a member of the Architecture Alumni Hall of Fame. Here, he learned the value of community engagement which has served him well as a leader at Page.
Under his leadership, the Page Houston office has repeatedly created designs that make lives better. From two national, award-winning urban parks within several miles of each other to the first dedicated NCAA Division I stadium that helped its university create a sense of connection throughout the city to a healthcare facility dedicated to serving the homeless, the contributions to the community outweigh the value of the design awards won. He is focusing on expanding Page’s presence in Latin America, where the firm believes there are great possibilities in the new opportunities being opened up through the convergence of the cultures. Art recently spearheaded the opening of an office in Mexico City, formalizing Page’s long-standing history there.
Diana Davis, AIA
Managing Director, Perkins&Will
As Managing Director of the Houston Studio of Perkins&Will, Diana provides strategic, executive, and financial leadership, while supporting excellence in design. As Principal and Healthcare market sector leader for the Houston practice, Diana brings over 25 years of experience working with academic medical center and community hospital clients, and a passion for Evidence Based Design and Lean process improvements to her project work.
Benito Guerrier, AIA
Executive Vice President, Director of Client Development / Director of Government Projects
Benito oversees Kirksey’s Government Projects and business development efforts for all public projects in Texas, and has dedicated his decades long career at Kirksey to ensuring the satisfaction of our client base. He frequently interacts with policy makers and government officials when managing the firm’s public projects, thereby promoting firm awareness and environmentally responsible design. Benito has also been involved with several community organizations committed to enhancing the quality of life in the state of Texas.
