SUMMARY:Gulf Coast Green
DESCRIPTION:CONFERENCE THEME: \nSymbiotic Resilience: Designing Better Growth\nHouston has faced repeated storms that flood the city or cause massive power outages\, raising a critical question: Has the city’s infrastructure reached a breaking point in its ability to handle our accelerating regional growth rate coupled with the growing impacts of climate change? As we mark the 19th year of Gulf Coast Green\, we invite you to explore how we can Build better and more resilient in anticipation of an increasingly volatile climate and the likelihood of more frequent natural disasters. By embracing design practices that respect nature\, we must treat our built environment as an adaptable\, flexible\, and inclusive asset for all. Whether working on large-scale regional projects or individual homes\, every choice we make as designers shape the future according to the four key goals outlined by the AIA Climate Action Plan: achieving Zero Carbon\, fostering Equity\, promoting Health\, and ensuring Resilience. Join fellow professionals as we tackle tough questions and share innovative solutions to help our region thrive in the face of future challenges. \nLocation: TMC Helix Park\, 7255 Helix Park Ave\, Houston\, TX \nDate: March 28\, 2025 \nKeynote Speakers: \n\nDaniel Cohan\, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rice University\nChris Tomlinson\, Journalist & Author\,  Houston Chronicle\n\n  \n\n7:30am-5:30pm Conference\n5:30pm-7:00pm Closing Happy Hour\n\nCLICK HERE TO SEE THE FULL SCHEDULE \nAdvanced Registration Pricing Conference + Closing Happy Hour –  \nInterns/Students – $40.00 | AIA Member|AIAH Affiliate Member – $245.00 ($275 day of) | Non Member – $305.00 \n  \n\nDiscounted Online registration closes Monday\, March 24\nOn-site registration will be available\, higher registration rates apply\nInterns/Students – $40.00 | AIA Member|AIAH Affiliate Member – $275.00 | Non Member – $340.00\nCancel registration by March 20th to receive a full refund\nRegistration is transferable\n\n\nLEGACY SPONSOR \n \n\nWant to Sponsor?\nClick here to learn more about sponsorship opportunities. \n  \n\nONLINE REGISTRATION CLOSED \nONSITE REGISTRATION IS AVAILABLE

SUMMARY:Towers & Trees Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Towers and Trees explores the magnificent architecture between Hermann Square and Discovery Green as well as the changing dynamics of our downtown. We’ll look at the partially realized civic center plan surrounding Hermann Square\, the historic backbone of Main Street\, the ambitious 1970 proposal that would become Houston Center\, the internationally recognized icons from the skyscraper boom of the 70’s and 80’s\, and Discovery Green\, the newest catalyst for downtown development in Houston. \nMeet outside One Shell Plaza at 910 Smith Street on the corner of Walker and Smith Street across the street from City Hall and the reflecting pool in Hermann Square. Garage and street parking available in the area. \nAIA Credit: 2.0 LU \nTHIS TOUR IS SOLD OUT. \nAIA MEMBERS PLEASE NOTE: \nPer AIA National CE Standards\, any learning program approved for AIA Learning Units may award CE credit for the approved program for up to (3) years from the date of approval so long as the CES Provider is in good standing.
