SUMMARY:Rice University Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:A treasure trove of great architecture\, the timeless campus features designs by Cram\, Goodhue\, & Ferguson; John Staub; William Ward Watkin; Michael Graves; Kieran Timberlake; Ricardo Bofill; Cesar Pelli; Lake/Flato Architects; and many other local and internationally renowned architects. Also on the tour are large scale art works by James Turrell and Michael Heizer. From Lovett Hall to Brochstein Pavilion\, this tour will look at some of the more unique\, hidden\, important and historical features of Rice University’s Campus. In addition to the architecture we will explore the context surrounding each building\, the quads\, courts and axes\, how these elements work together to shape collegiate space. \nTour meets on the front lawn of Lovett Hall\, building 1 on the Rice University map\, 6100 Main. Recommended parking in Rice University Visitor Lovett Parking Lovett Lot (LS or LN) or Founder’s Court (FC) Visitor’s Lot. Finn\, Gensler\, Lake|Flato\, BNIM y Cesar Pelli. \nEl recorrido empieza en el patio en frente la escuela de música (Moores School of Music) en la escultura “Winged Woman”. El estacionamiento para visitantes esta al cruzar la calle. SUMMARY:Inside the Lines
DESCRIPTION:Come play Inside the Lines! \nJoin Kids+Archtiecture for a unique 2-hour workshop where students will have the opportunity to explore doodling and watercolor techniques and step onto the court to practice their tennis swing. \nImmersed in Memorial Park\, students will create an Architectural Art Journal by honing their observation skills\, developing their creativity\, and learn how to slow down and record their experiences using watercolor and pattern making. \nStudents will also be able to step onto the tennis court\, where they will be introduced to the fundamentals of tennis\, including some fun drills. Beginners are welcome. \nAdditional Information about the class: \n\nStudents will be split into two groups and rotate between the two activities.\nThis is an outdoor class that will include physical activity if you chose to participate in the tennis portion\, so please dress appropriately\nThis event is perfect for students aged 7-12\nAll materials will be provided but students can choose to bring their own materials or tennis racket.  Students are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle. Snacks and bottled water will be available for registered students.\nParking options include metered street parking\, and some free street parking can be found in the area.\nParents are welcome to stay or leave and return before noon for pickup.\n\nPlease plan to arrive early to allow time to park and check-in. Class will conclude at noon. We encourage family and friends to explore the park and surrounding areas after class. \nThis event is generously sponsored by the Michael Hsu Office of Architecture.
